Speakers of Houses of Assembly in the 19 Northern states of the country have tasked state governors to emulate the Federal Government in its anti graft war .
In a communiqué, read in the early hours of yesterday by the Acting Chairman of the Northern Speakers Forum, Honorable Adamu Dala Dogo, at the end of its maiden meeting held Kano, the speakers also expressed solidarity with the Federal Government on its efforts to fight corruption in all sectors of the economy and at the various levels of governance. A total of 16 of the 19 Northern Speakers attended the meeting
The speakers, who briefed the media at the Kano State House of Assembly, further endorsed the current war against insurgency in the region, while at the same time applauding the efforts of the Federal Government to rebuild the North East region. They also expressed sympathy with the victims of the recent bomb attacks in Plateau, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe states and with all other victims of insurgency across the North. Besides, they resolved to maintain and promote a good working relationship with the executive arms of government in their respective states as part of efforts to ensure the rapid development of the North
The speakers also resolved to work together as a team in tackling the problems of the region “as every problem solved in one state is solution provided to other member states”
Meanwhile, the governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has urged the speakers to work towards ending the problems of insurgency in the region. He also tasked them to come up with a common bill that would eradicate child begging across the region
