Sequel to the directive by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Maj-Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai, the Nigerian military has opened more roads to commuters in the Boko Haram terrorists-threatened north-eastern part of the country.
The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman said in a statement Wednesday that troops of the 3rd and 7 Divisions of the Nigerian Army cleared the roads in compliance with Buratai's directive on the need to be more proactive in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
Usman disclosed that the road linking Biu–Sabon Gari – Damboa in Borno State is now cleared of mines and insurgents for public usage.
"The public are encouraged to use the road as adequate security measures have been put in place for their safety", he said.
Similarly, he added, efforts are on for the clearance and reopening of other roads in Borno and Yobe States.
In a related development, former Commander, the Army Headquarters, Garrisson, Abuja, Brig-Gen Musa Yusuf has been appointed the new Commander, Guards Brigade.
While taking over from Brig-Gen Anthony Omozoje Wednesday, Yusuf noted: “The commandant of guard’s brigade is responsible for the security of Mr. President, members of his family, Federal Capital Territory and environs, and that is exactly what we are going to do
